Sri Lanka - Trinidad & Tobago Bilateral Relations

Sri Lanka's diplomatic interactions with Trinidad and Tobago date back to the 1950s, during the British Commonwealth era. However, formal diplomatic relations were established by the two countries in November 1971. 

As prominent cricketing nations, a robust people-to-people connection that spans for decades exists between Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago. Notably, the Sri Lankan cricket team toured Trinidad and Tobago in June 1997 and again in 2007 for the ICC Cricket World Cup held in Port-of-Spain.

A small Sri Lankan community resides in Trinidad and Tobago. Some inhabitants of Trinidad and Tobago are descendants of Sri Lankans (Ceylon) who were brought by the British for employment purposes.

Diplomatically, Sri Lanka is accredited to Trinidad and Tobago through its Ambassador based in Washington, D.C., while Trinidad and Tobago is accredited to Sri Lanka via its Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Trade Relations: 

Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago enjoy friendly economic relations, with opportunities to further expand bilateral trade, investment and business cooperation. Sri Lanka continues to promote exports and private-sector partnerships, particularly in apparel, tea, spices, rubber products and other value-added goods, while exploring new avenues for mutually beneficial economic engagement.
