The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C. was among the first overseas diplomatic missions established by Sri Lanka, then known as Ceylon. Since the commencement of diplomatic relations with the United States on October 29, 1948, the Embassy has served as an important conduit for strengthening the enduring and diverse relationship between Sri Lanka and the United States.
The Embassy continues to work on broadening bilateral engagement through effective diplomacy and representing and safeguarding national interests by promoting trade, investment, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Embassy is also committed to delivering efficient, people-centered services, ensuring the welfare of its citizens.
