The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C. organized an alms-giving ceremony on 1st October 2026 at the Embassy premises for the Maha Sangha, with the participation of 15 Venerable Buddhist monks representing temples located in the DMV area.
The event was attended by members of the diplomatic community, including the Ambassador of Myanmar and officers representing the Embassies of Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Following the offering of alms, Venrable Maha Sangha invoked blessings upon the staff of the Embassy and the participants. In keeping with the Buddhist tradition of sharing merits, merits accrued from the alms-giving were also transferred in memory of those who lost their lives in the recent natural disasters in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
