Embassy of Sri Lanka conducted a series of meetings with senior members representing United States Senators

Mr. Maduka Wickramarachchi, Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy and the staff, recently conducted a series of meetings with senior members representing United States Senators Jim Banks, Tammy Duckworth, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Eric Schmitt. The primary objectives of these discussions were to provide updates on Sri Lanka's current priorities in bilateral relation.

During discussions, Charge d'Affaires Wickramarachchi elaborated on the bilateral relations and current initiatives for good governance, and pivotal trade matters. Defence Advisor of the Embassy Commodore Dumindu Abeywickrama highlighted the significant contributions of the Sri Lankan military in ensuring peaceful navigation within the nation's territorial waters. He further emphasized the critical importance of acquiring advanced capabilities to bolster maritime domain awareness and enhance Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) capabilities.

The Embassy has taken a bottom-up approach by briefing the policy advisors of the Senators and these constructive engagements are expected to serve as a vital catalyst, paving the way for more extensive senator-level interactions and ultimately leading to a substantial enhancement of the bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the United States.
